The Hanoi Department of Foreign Affairs is a specialized agency on advising and assisting the Hanoi People's Committee to perform the state management function on foreign activities. This department as well as performs several duties as authorized by the City and under the law. Hanoi DFA is under the direct also comprehensive direction of the Hanoi People's Committee.

In the first week, I went to the Hanoi DFA at 10 Le Lai to start my internship on 23rd September. I met with the deputy chief of Office - Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, who was then assigned me as an intern at the Protocol Division lead by Mrs. Le Phuong Thuy. The first impression I felt when walking into the division is welcoming; the staffs are friendly and professional, plus their relationships are amazingly harmonious. It was such a good feeling to emerge into a new environment.

Fortunately for me, my internship started right in time for the 1010th anniversary of Thang Long and later the first visit of the newly-elected Prime Minister of Japan - Mr. Yoshihide Suga. As a translator intern, this is my opportunity to observe not only how translators work at DFA but also a slight look at the interpreter's working environment. In this case, it was the interpreter Ta Quang Dong with simultaneous interpreting. With only 20 minutes before the event, he was able to prepare for a speech that I must take at least an hour and a half to translate into English. It was eyes opening.

My internship at Hanoi DFA helps me acquire many specialized words translation, a chance to dip my toes into the governor's office environment with other valuable career knowledge. Moreover, this is a chance for me to practice my office computer skills, office writing style while enhancing discipline and improving my professionalism.

In the end, I would like to send my gratitude to the Hanoi Department of Foreign Affairs for creating the best situation possible for me to take my internship. I also would like to thank Mr. Vu Anh Tung, my direct supervisor, and the team from the Protocol Division for always zealously-guiding me and their hospitality. Finally, I would love to send my gratitude to Mrs. Tran Thi Tuyet Mai - my instructor from the Faculty of education and foreign languages, for her enthusiastic instruction and precious advice.
